2. Trailhead to Lower & Upper Falls (Canyon & Waterfalls)
The trail begins right near the parking lot next to the restroom facility. Clear signage from the start ensures you stay on track effortlessly.

- Highlights: Steel catwalks are suspended along the canyon walls, allowing you to walk right above the rushing river.
- Photo Tip: There is a short natural cave tunnel leading to a viewing platform right in front of Lower Falls. Though there’s usually a queue, passing through the cave to feel the thunderous waterfall mist up close is absolutely worth the wait!
💦 Upper Falls
- Highlights: A 20 to 30-minute hike past Lower Falls brings you to Upper Falls via a gentle dirt and boardwalk path.
- Rest Area: A spacious wooden viewing platform provides plenty of room for group photos and quick rest breaks. Most casual tourists turn back here.
3. Upper Falls to Ink Pots (The Real Hike Begins)
While most crowds stop at Upper Falls, the true adventure lies ahead on the trail toward Ink Pots.
🌲 Trail Conditions & Technical Terrain
- Path Quality: After Upper Falls, the trail transitions into a forest dirt path. It is smooth, wide, and free of hazardous rock scrambles or technical sections.
- Elevation & Stamina: No ropes or climbing are required. However, you will experience a continuous uphill incline gaining 515 meters over roughly 3 km. Take advantage of the bench rest areas along the way to pace yourself.
- Navigation: Clear wooden signposts mark every junction pointing toward Ink Pots, making navigation straightforward even without checking offline maps.
4. Arriving at the Magical Ink Pots & Scenic Views

Emerging from the dense forest, the trees open up into a breathtaking alpine meadow featuring seven colorful cold mineral springs—Ink Pots.
- Summit Vibe: There is no official summit marker, but several wooden benches are scattered across the meadow, offering a peaceful place to rest.
- Scenery: As the tree line thins out, the vibrant green and turquoise pools contrast beautifully against the towering snow-capped mountain ranges in the background.
- Wildflowers: True to Alberta’s reputation, vibrant native wildflowers bloom along the trail and around the springs, adding rich color to the landscape.
